JAMAICANS
Jamaicans are experts in tourism, as witness by the
"export" of their expertise. More and more
Jamaicans have branched out with hotels and resorts now
based in The Bahamas and even Cuba. Foremost among
these entrepreneurs are "Butch" Stewart of Sandals fame,
John Issa of SuperClubs and Chris Blackwell, music
mogul turned hotelier. In Jamaica itself, most of the
action is concentrated in Ocho Rios, Port Antonio, Negril,
Kingston and Montego Bay.

The Blue Lagoon - Jamaica
Although strongly influenced by traditional African, American jazz
and old-time rhythm and blues, reggae owes its direct origins to the
progressive development of ska and rocksteady in 1960s Jamaica. Ska arose in the studios of Jamaica around 1959, it developed
from the earlier Mento genre. By the mid 1960s. many musicans
had begun playing the tempo of Ska slower. This sound was named
Rocksteady. after a single by Alton Ellis. This phase of
Jamaican music lasted only until 1968, when musicians began
to speed up the temp of the music again, and added yet
more effects. This led to the creation of Reggae.
